Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) went up Wednesday evening with the first advertisements in her race against Rep. Tom Allen (D). Even though statewide elections have favored Democrats in recent cycles, Collins has kept a double-digit lead over Allen in most publicly released polls.

The two ads, a 30-second spot and a 60-second spot, are similar and are on what the campaign called different examples of Collins’ bipartisan efforts in the Senate. The voice in the ads is that of Steve Zirnkilton, a Maine resident best known for his voiceover work in the NBC series “Law and Order,” according to Collins’ campaign.

“I feel so strongly that Democrats and Republicans have to come together,” Collins says in the ads.

“Sen. Susan Collins wrote bipartisan legislation to ... end needless tax breaks for big oil companies, ... provide tax relief for teachers, ... protect home health care ... and much more,” the announcer says. “We ought to be able to sit down, negotiate and get the job done,” Collins says to close the spots.

Allen has yet to go up with TV ads in the closely watched race.
